Innovis Credit Report Errors

The Kim Law Firm represents consumers harmed by inaccurate information on their Innovis credit reports. Innovis Data Solutions, Inc. is a national consumer reporting agency — sometimes called the fourth credit bureau — that maintains credit files on tens of millions of Americans and sells that information to lenders, insurers, and other businesses. When your Innovis file is wrong, it can affect the credit offers, insurance rates, and financing decisions you receive. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), Innovis must maintain accurate records and investigate disputes you file, just like Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion must. If Innovis has failed to correct a verified error and you have suffered harm, we can help you dispute the error and, when necessary, hold Innovis legally accountable.

What Innovis is and what it does

Innovis Data Solutions, Inc. is headquartered in Columbus, Ohio and operates as one of the national consumer reporting agencies covered by the FCRA. Innovis gathers payment history, account information, balances, collections, and public records from creditors, debt collectors, and other data furnishers, then packages and sells that information to financial institutions and other subscribers. While Innovis is not as universally used in credit underwriting decisions as the three largest bureaus, its data influences prescreened credit offers, insurance underwriting, mortgage loan processing, and fraud-detection systems at a wide range of companies. Because it is a consumer reporting agency as defined by the FCRA, every legal protection the statute provides — including your right to dispute inaccurate information and seek damages when the law is violated — applies fully to Innovis.

Innovis’s track record on accuracy and disputes

Innovis is one of the nationwide consumer reporting agencies regulated under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and it appears on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s published list of consumer reporting companies. Like the three largest bureaus, Innovis has been named in federal lawsuits alleging that it failed to follow reasonable procedures to assure the accuracy of information in consumer files, or failed to properly reinvestigate disputed items. In Green v. Innovis Data Solutions, Inc. (N.D. Tex. 2021), for example, a consumer alleged violations of the FCRA’s accuracy requirement (15 U.S.C. § 1681e(b)) and reinvestigation requirement (§ 1681i) after disputing inaccurate late payments on his Innovis file.

If Innovis has reported inaccurate information about you and failed to correct it after a proper dispute, you may be entitled to hold it accountable and recover damages under the FCRA. Sources: CFPB — Innovis and Innovis Dispute Resolution.

Common errors that appear on Innovis reports

Innovis receives data from many of the same creditors and data furnishers that report to the three larger bureaus, which means its files are susceptible to the same categories of error. Mixed files occur when Innovis merges another consumer's accounts into your report because of a similar name, a close Social Security number, or a shared address. Accounts opened through identity theft appear as if they belong to you. Paid or settled debts remain listed as delinquent, charged-off, or in collections after you resolved them. The same account is reported twice, overstating your debt load. Outdated negative information — most items must drop off after seven years — continues to appear past the legal deadline. Incorrect balances, credit limits, or payment histories make your file less favorable than it should be. Each of these errors puts false information about you in front of businesses that rely on Innovis data to make decisions.

How an Innovis error can hurt you

Even when a lender or insurer does not pull Innovis as a primary credit report, Innovis data still touches a range of financial decisions. Prescreened credit and insurance offers are built in part from Innovis files, so an error may cause you to receive worse offers — or none at all — compared to what you would receive with an accurate record. Some mortgage programs and specialty lenders do consult Innovis directly, meaning an error could contribute to a denial or a higher rate. Insurance companies in some states use consumer report data including Innovis in setting premiums, so an inaccuracy can cost you more for coverage every year. Because consumers often do not know what Innovis shows about them until they investigate, errors may go undetected and unremedied for years.

Your rights under the Fair Credit Reporting Act

The FCRA gives you several important rights against Innovis. You are entitled to a free copy of your Innovis consumer disclosure once every 12 months, which you can obtain directly from Innovis. When you identify an inaccuracy, you have the right to file a written dispute; Innovis then has — generally 30 days — to reinvestigate and either verify the information as accurate or correct or delete it. The furnisher who originally reported the disputed information has a parallel duty to investigate and stop reporting data it knows to be wrong. When Innovis fails to follow reasonable procedures to ensure accuracy, fails to conduct a proper reinvestigation, or continues to report information after it has been shown to be inaccurate, the FCRA allows you to sue for actual damages, and for willful violations, statutory damages, punitive damages, and attorney's fees paid by Innovis, not by you.

How to request your Innovis report and file a dispute

To get your free Innovis consumer disclosure, contact Innovis directly. Innovis does not participate in AnnualCreditReport.com, so you must request your Innovis file separately by visiting innovis.com, calling Innovis's consumer assistance line, or writing to Innovis Data Solutions at its Columbus, Ohio address. Review the report carefully, looking for accounts you do not recognize, debts you have already paid, personal information that belongs to another person, and items that should have aged off your file. To dispute an error, send a written dispute to Innovis with copies of any supporting documents — payoff letters, bank statements, identity-theft reports, or anything else that proves the correct information. Send it by certified mail with a return receipt and keep all records. Innovis must acknowledge your dispute, investigate it, and notify you of the outcome. If the error is not corrected and later reappears, that pattern can itself be evidence of a legal violation.

How The Kim Law Firm helps with Innovis credit report problems

When disputing on your own has not worked — or when Innovis refuses to fix an error you have already documented — The Kim Law Firm can take over the fight. We review your Innovis consumer disclosure, identify the specific conduct that violates the FCRA, communicate with Innovis and any furnisher involved in reporting the wrong information, and — when they will not correct the record — file suit in federal court to compel a correction and recover compensation for the harm you have suffered. Because the FCRA shifts attorney's fees to the party that violated the law, you pay nothing unless we recover for you. We handle Innovis FCRA cases from our Philadelphia office and represent clients throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and beyond.

Frequently asked questions about Innovis

How do I get a copy of my Innovis credit report?

Request your free Innovis consumer disclosure directly from Innovis — through its website at innovis.com, by phone, or by mail. Because Innovis is not part of the AnnualCreditReport.com system, you must request it separately from your Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion reports. You are entitled to one free copy every 12 months, as well as additional free copies if you have been denied credit based on the report or if you are the victim of identity theft.

Does Innovis affect my credit score?

Innovis does not generate the FICO or VantageScore credit scores that most lenders use in traditional underwriting. However, Innovis data influences prescreening for credit and insurance offers, some mortgage processes, and fraud-detection tools at financial institutions. An inaccuracy in your Innovis file can cost you favorable offers even if it does not appear on your FICO score.

Can I place a security freeze on my Innovis file?

Yes. Innovis is required by federal law to offer a free security freeze. Freezing your Innovis file prevents Innovis from sharing your report with creditors looking to open new accounts in your name. You can place, temporarily lift, or permanently remove the freeze for free by contacting Innovis directly through its website or by mail.

What if Innovis fails to investigate my dispute?

If Innovis does not complete its investigation within the required timeframe, ignores your dispute, or continues reporting information it cannot verify as accurate, it may be violating the FCRA. At that point you may have a legal claim for damages. An FCRA attorney can evaluate what happened and advise on whether and how to proceed.

How much does it cost to hire The Kim Law Firm for an Innovis case?

Nothing upfront. Your initial case review is free, and because the FCRA requires the violating company to pay attorney's fees when a consumer wins, you pay no attorney fees unless we recover compensation for you.

Is there a deadline for bringing an FCRA claim against Innovis?

Yes. FCRA claims generally must be filed within two years of the date you discover the violation, and no later than five years after the violation occurred. Because these windows can close faster than they seem, it is worth having your situation evaluated promptly if you believe Innovis has violated your rights.
