Medical Debt Collectors

Medical debt reaches your credit file differently from every other kind of debt. You do not shop for the price, you rarely agree to it before the service, and the balance is often placed with a collection agency while an insurer is still deciding what it owes. The agency then furnishes the account to Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. A claim denied over a coding error, a balance an insurer was obliged to pay, one episode of care reported as several separate debts, or an account belonging to someone with a similar name can all surface on your report as a collection. The nationwide credit reporting agencies removed paid medical collections in July 2022 and, from April 2023, medical collections whose initial balance was under 500 dollars, but those were voluntary industry changes rather than law, and anything outside them still reports. The Fair Credit Reporting Act gives you the right to force an inaccurate entry corrected and to recover money for the harm it causes. Below are the medical debt collectors we help consumers with. If yours is not listed, we can still help. Our guide to working with an FCRA lawyer explains how these cases are built and what they cost you.
