That means you have the right to see it, dispute it free of charge, and hold the company accountable when an error costs you the job, the position, or the apartment.
What JDP is
JDP describes itself as an employment screening and background check company offering FCRA-compliant screening — background checks, verifications and references, drug testing, social media screening, and tenant screening — and it is accredited by the Professional Background Screening Association. You may also meet JDP outside a job application: Little League, for example, runs its volunteer background checks exclusively through JDP, whose searches span criminal records and sex offender registry records across all fifty states and the District of Columbia. Whether the check was for employment, housing, or a coaching role, the same federal law governs the report.
Where these reports go wrong
Background screening databases assemble records by name and date of birth, and that is where the failures start. A criminal case that was dismissed, expunged, or sealed can be reported as if it ended in conviction — the exact problem our guide to dismissed charges on a background check covers. A record belonging to someone with a similar name can attach to your file — the same matching failure that produces a mixed credit file. The same case can surface twice under different captions, and records past the FCRA’s reporting limits can resurface from a stale database. In a volunteer context the stakes are different but the mechanism is identical: a false match reads as a disqualifying record until you fight it.
Your rights when a JDP report costs you an opportunity
Before an employer takes adverse action based on a background check, you are entitled to a copy of the report and a summary of your FCRA rights — and time to respond. JDP’s own consumer pages say disputes are always free, filed by phone at (844) 899-9424 or through its online dispute form, with the dispute team responding within five business days and resolution in no more than thirty days. Dispute in writing where you can, attach the court records or documents that prove your point, and keep copies of everything.
